ちいさな街の本屋さん

バスに乗って通り過ぎながら、そこに本屋があることは知っていた。
軒先きに雑誌が並ぶ、昔ながらの佇まいの本屋だ。
後からネットで調べてみたが公式サイトなどがあるわけではなく、かろうじて見つかったのはお店に行ったことがある人たちによるSNS投稿のいくつかだった。

個人経営のこじんまりとした規模の店が好きな私は、その本屋も近いうちに、あえてバスを途中下車して行ってみようかと考えていたのだが、偶然にも他の用事で歩いている時にその本屋の近くにいることに気がついた。

気になる新刊もあったので、本屋に入ってみると、店のお爺さんが1人入り口のレジカウンター内に座り、奥にはお孫さんなのか椅子に座って涼んでいる様子の男の子。
平日の昼間だがお客さんは混みすぎるでもなく閑散とし過ぎるでもない、程よいリズムでやって来る。
欲しかった新刊と、新たに棚で出会った1冊を選んでレジのお爺さんに手渡すと
「若いのに本を読むなんて偉いねえ」と言いながら包んだ本と一緒に飴やラムネをポンポンと渡してくれた。
見ればレジ台の奥にはたくさんの飴のストックがあり、お会計の時にお客さんに渡すというのがこの店のお決まりのようだった。
店を出る前に見たお爺さんの笑顔は、シュワッとした、頭のあたり全体から表情の音が聞こえそうな笑顔だった。

徐々に暑さが増す昼の日差しの中、お爺さんからもらった飴を一粒口に放り込み、ゆっくりと歩いていく。
飴の甘さが夏の重苦しい暑さの中で、じんわりした。

またあの本屋さんで本を買おう。

I had known about a little book store because I saw it moving by bus. But I have never been there.
I like some independent little store like bakery, cafe, craft shop and book shop.
Today’s schedule didn’t contain stopping by the book store, but fortunately I realized that I was nearby after some appointments.

I opened the door. In the book shop, an old man sit near the entrance (he may owner) and young boy (his grandchild, maybe) was cooling himself under the air conditioner.
One customer after another came and saw the bookshelf or talked with the old man.
It’s not too crowded, but not too quiet. The atmosphere kept good feeling by some people.

I chose a new published novel which I had wanted to read and a essay which I found on the bookshelf.
When I passed those books to the man, he said “Are you student? You might be a good girl because you are reading the book in spite of your young age”

The man seems to have some thought about young readers is decreasing than he was a young boy.
When he pass me two books, he gave me some candies.
His smile was impressed me. I felt like hearing something fresh sounds like a fizzy drink.

Leaving the book store, I tried the candy walking under the strong sunlight.
Sweet taste give me something nice with the old man’s smile.
I want to buy some books at the store again.
