『ニムロッド』

物量と処理スピードは必ずしも比例しない。

一見すぐ済みそうなことに手こずることもあれば、
こりゃ大変な量だぞと腰が引けていたものの始めてみればあっという間に終わっていた、ということもある。





芥川賞受賞作品の『ニムロッド』を読み終えた。

受賞の話題作ということもあり、書店の目立つ場所に平積みになっているのを見かける本なので、ここを呼んでいる方の中にも手にとってみたことがある方がいるかもしれない。
ページ数は多くはなく、文字のレイアウトもギチギチに詰め込まれているわけでもない。
購入した時には、さらりと読み終えるかなと思っていた。

しかしそこは流石の芥川賞受賞作。
場面転換するごとに本を閉じてしまう日もあったりして、行間の濃密さに思わぬ時間をかけた読書になった。

この本に出てくるのはかの有名な仮想通貨なのだが、
描かれているのは、現代の価値概念である。

人々は何に価値を見出しているのか。
その価値を決めるのは欲しがる大衆としての人間なのか、その心理すら操作してしまうどこかの誰かなのか。

ただの印字された紙切れが莫大な価値と交換可能な物質となることもあり、また逆にある日突然紙切れに戻ることもある。


価値とは、確かに存在するようでありながら目に見えないものでもあり、目に見える形としての金額というものが設定されていたとしても、そもそも金額が指し示す価値が変わることもあるという、
明確であるという仮面をつけた霧のようなものでもあり、なんとも不可思議なものだ。

ある側面から見れば簡単に説明可能なことも、別の視点を取ればあっという間に曖昧に感じられたりもする。


ぐるぐると、価値についての思考がめぐる。
私たちはそれぞれの中に真の価値観を育て続けていかなくてはいけない。
価値判断は生き方の一つの要素であると思った小説だった。




The amount of something is not necessarily propotion to the pace for disposing of it.
Sometimes we can't do it smoothly although it looks easy. On the other hand, sometimes we can finish many difficult things so quickly exceeding our expectation.

Now, I finished a novel namely "Nimrod" which was "Akutagawa-prize" winning novel.

This book had not too thick and not too tightly letter per one page. So it looks like the book
for light reading.

But it was my misunderstanding.
I had taken my time for reading this. Sometimes I read only a few pages and stopped reading for thinking about this story.
This strong novel gives me many triggers for thinking about my life and values not only his sharply texts as also between the lines.


This novel set a theme for famous Virtual Currency namely Bitcoin.
But many readers will feel many values for each life.

It's strange things in our life.
Many values exist in many places.
Suddenly they may be changed like the inflation or the deflation, or Great Depression in the world.
Is it manipulated by someone? Who is decided them??
I thonght about the values and the consumption.
I have to decide not to be stirred by someone and our society.
