150 years ago in Japan, Meiji was started and many traditional habits were changed by Japanese government toward Western-style.
In this exhibition, Clothes and make-up items for women were focused and introduced about traditional thought about women between Japanese people on that era.
Women were not permitted to show their appearances to other than their family.
Of course they couldn't play as model for painting or shooting some photos. But Meiji Era had come. Their style had big change and they were adopted on the poster for the famous department like Mitsukoshi. And their cloths were changed from traditional Kimono to dresses. I supposed that they felt confusion about many new things such as storm. We had a long time until this era. We
couldn't image about the impact in their hearts.
Women's roles in their society was changed.
Accordingly, they needed to change their styles.
Coco Chanel presented many new styles through the women's new position in their society.
Her bags, jackets, bottoms(not long dresses) were inherited to our fashions. She was needed by New Era women.
"Modern Girl" were also prodeced by Meiji Era.
In this exhibition, I found our favorite painting by Chikatoshi Enomoto who was a painter in Japanese style using traditional mineral pigments.

He was a disciple of Kiyokata Kaburaki who was one of the famous painter in Japanese style.
They used the cleary color with sheer touched painting like the watercolor painting.
Although it had pale color, it was strong impressed and told us many stories.
I like Kiyokata Kaburaki, and also Enomoto.
This exhibition is held until March.
Please check it in the official web page.
