『国宝雪松図と動物アート』@三井記念美術館

12月の美術館、
特に日本美術を展示しているところは、お正月にちなんだ展示を企画しているところも多い。

どうしても観たくて、展示初日に行ってきたのは、
三井記念美術館の『国宝雪松図と動物アート』展。

タイトルにもあるように
円山応挙の描いた、国宝《雪松図屏風》が公開されている。

これまでにも何度か観たことのある作品だが、観れば観るほど、なんとも晴れ晴れしい、おめでたい雰囲気に溢れる屏風である。
柔らかな日差しの中、風に舞う地面近くの粉雪。
昨夜のうちに新しく降り積もったばかりのような、松の上に軽やかに乗っている、こんもりとした雪の様子は、穏やかな天気の昼の優しさも感じさせる。
それでいて冬独特の凛とした鼻の奥にツンとくる冷たさも感じさせるのだから、まさに天才の技としか言いようがない。
平日に観に行ったこともあり、ゆったりとほぼ独り占め状態で鑑賞した。
この絵はやはりこの時期、年末年始に相応しいとしみじみ思う。来年もまだ公開期間は続くのでお正月休みなどに機会があれば是非多くの方にお勧めしたい一枚だ。





さらに今回の展示では、恐ろしく贅沢なことに、同じ展示室内にこれでもかと言うほど、大作がずらりと並ぶ。
長沢芦雪の《白象黒牛図屏風》は現在確認できているもので同じ絵柄のものが3点存在するのだとか。
今回展示されているものは個人蔵のもので所蔵者は具体的には明かされていない。
他は美術館所蔵のものとアメリカの有名なエツコ&ジョー プライスコレクションのもので計3点。
以前名古屋で開催された長沢芦雪展ではプライスコレクションのものを拝見していたので、今回また別の作品を観ることが叶って良かった。
屏風は中央から開いていくという性質を利用し、最初に開く面、後から開く面を計算しながら遊び心満載に描かれた作品である。最初に開く面にちょこんと両足を流して座る白い子犬が出てくるわけである。なんとも可愛らしい仕掛けだ。




ジョー・プライスさんが好きで買っていた頃にはほとんど注目されていなかったという森狙仙の作品も並ぶ。
森狙仙の描く猿たちは、活き活きとした動きと柔らかな毛並み、愛らしい表情が見事に描かれている。
なかなか、森狙仙展、というような企画は作品の数や世界中から集めてくるなどの事情により難しそうだけれど、ジョー・プライスさんの本を読んで知って以来、様々な展覧会で１点２点と見つける度に注目している。



他にも個人的な勝手な思い込みで堅い風景や静物画のイメージが強かった沈南蘋によるコミカルな表情の動物たちが実に表情豊かで、観ていてこちらが笑顔になるものばかりだったり、
様々な時代のころんとした丸みがとても可愛らしい動物の香炉なども並んだりと、多くの名作を優雅な建築の中で楽しむことができる。
そう、三井記念美術館は空間の美しさも魅力なのだ。
来る度に、しっとりとした気持ちにさせられるし、毎回展示内容とこの空間も素晴らしく合っている。


また今回のように三井家が江戸時代から蒐集してきたコレクションを中心に展示が構成されることが多く、
作品の制作年や購入時期によっては三井家の当時の方々にとって円山応挙も長沢芦雪も購入時は「現代アート」だった時があったのだと、当たり前のような事実に改めて気付かされる。
それらは例え同じ作家の作品であったとしても、現代の私たちが江戸の絵師の作品を買うのとは、全く違う行為と言ってもいいくらいだろう。
美術史に名を残した偉大な絵師たちと同時代を生き、注文製作を依頼することも出来、アーティストとコレクターがともに歳を重ねて行った、そんな時が確実にあった。当時お互いの心に受け止めた喜びは、どんなにか素晴らしいものだったかと、現代の私は羨ましい気持ちと共に精一杯想像を巡らせた。
三井家のコレクションは、作品の素晴らしさだけではなく、様々な時の流れも私たちに伝えてくれている。


年明けもまだ続く『国宝雪松図と動物アート』展は

お正月休みのアート鑑賞にもオススメ。

でした。

On Dec. in Japan, many museum hold the exhibition about Japanese traditional art especially the Edo era like Rinpa, Ukiyoe, Momoyama which including the National Treasure and the Important Cultural Property.

I looked forward to start this exhibition at Mitsui Memorial Museum.↓

Okyo Maruyama's a pair of folding screen with each six panels titled "Yuki-Matsu Zu Byobu" (Yuki means snow, Matsu means pine tree, Zu means picture and Byobu means these forms of panels in Japanese).

This Okyo's work is the only work speified as the National Treasure in his works.
When I stand in front of this work, Joyous light fill my heart. It's "Omedetai" feeling in Japanese.
"Omedetai" used in the situation like someone's wedding party or celebration as starting day in their new things like an entrance ceremony to the schools or companies. Also we use the first day of the year saying "Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu" (it's the same with "A Happy New Year"). This work is the proper work I think for that reason.
He drew powdered snow blown up near the tree and tender sunlight. It has a peace and tranquility.
I had ever seen this in several times, but I was impressed every time.



And other works were great too.
Sosen Mori's monkey was so pretty and the fur painted by his skillful drawing style made us an illusion that we could toutch and feel their smooth fur.

I had known about Sosen Mori in the book
about Etsuko and Joe Price Collection. They has a big love about Japanese beautiful works especially some painters worked at Kyoto in
the Edo era.

In this exhibition, Byobu drawn by Rosetsu Nagasawa was showed. It's the same design with the Joe's collection's Rosetsu. The fact is the same work exist 3 works in the world. One of them
collected someone(not open to the public, private collection) is put in this show for the first time.
And the others are museum collection in Japan and thd Etsuko and Joe Price Collection.

And I became aware of one thing about "contemporary art" in this show.
This museum has many Mitsuis Collections which has been collected for a long time. And they may be able to talk with Okyo Maruyama, Sosen Mori, Rosetsu Nagasawa face to face in the old time!
It must be the "contemporary art" for them in those days!!
We can't know about it even if we can buy any art works made in the Edo era. It has huge difference thoroughly.
But, we can enjoy these works with their history now.

This wonderful exhibition will go on next year.
