2020最初の週

2020年が始って、1週間が経とうとしています。
この1週間、たくさんのことが出来たような気もするし、
時間が経ったわりにはあまり物事が進んでいないような気もするし。

アート界隈もお正月から開いている美術館もあり、お正月ならではの企画も多数あったようでしたが、我が家は神保町にある写真集出版社の実店舗 スーパーラボ ストアトーキョーさんへ行ってきました。

アメリカ在住で仲良くしてくださっている写真家さんと数ヶ月ぶりの再会もかねて、会場で待ち合わせ。
今回の企画は何人かのスピーカーが好きな写真集をそれぞれ1冊選び、一人10分の持ち時間でその写真集を紹介するというもの。様々な写真家さんや評論家さんなどがお話してくださって、とても楽しい企画でした。
中でも写真家の尾仲浩二さんが紹介してくださった マーティン・アミスさん（Martin Amis) の写真集 “THE GAMBLERS” がすっきりとした王道なカッコよさで、新年早々清々しい気持ちになりました。




タイトルにもあるように、ギャンンブラーズ、競馬場にいる人々を写し出した作品群なのですが、とても静謐な雰囲気もあり、すっとした立ち姿勢のジェントルマンが写っていたり、真剣に走る馬を見つめる人々のポートレートからはさらりとしたエレガントな空気さえも感じられます。装丁にもこだわりがあり、中を開くと競馬新聞がデザインされていたり。
このマーティン・アミスさん、写真家でもあるようですが、実はphotobookstoreというイギリスの本屋さんの店主さんであり、photoeditionというヨーロッパ最大のオンライン写真集のディーラーさんでもあるのだとか。
さすが世界のカッコいい写真集をわんさか見て扱ってきただけのことはあり、ご本人の本も間違いない美しさでした。なるほど、納得ですね。

また、別の場所にて年末に、ジョセフ・クーデルカさん（Josef Koudelka)の “Exile” という有名な写真集を開く機会がありました。
多分写真集をたくさん勉強したいと思ってあれこれ見ていたときに一度は開いていたかもしれない本なのですが、当時はまだまだ勉強不足で手当たり次第に見て、見て、見まくるの連続だったためかこの本の記憶は残っていませんでした。
そして先日手にして、一枚ずつめくっていき、最後のページを閉じた時
「ああ、写真集ってやっぱり、いいな」
と、しみじみ思ったのでした。







写真集は本に綴じるという特性上、どうしてもレイアウトや写真の順番などが発生します。
これらはページをめくる人の心象に、大きな影響を与える要素です。
写真の並びや写真ごとの配置やサイズなどが紙の上で変わってしまっただけで、全く違うものに見えてきてしまうのが、写真「集」の不思議でもあり、難しさでもあり、魅力でもあるのだと思います。
そんな基本中の基本のような、当たり前のことを、改めて感じて、良さを噛みしめることができ、私にとってこのクーデルカの1冊はとても印象に残る作品となりました。

最近思うのは、私は何かの単体ではなく、何かと何かを組み合わせた時に発生する化学反応のような面白さが好きなのかもしれないということ。
それらの反応は予想の範囲内のこともあれば、思いがけないこともあります。

上手くいく時もあれば、いかない時もある。
けれど、予想を超えた面白さは、予定調和の中だけからは生まれてこない。
先に踏み出す勇気を持って、既成概念にとらわれず、直感を磨き、そして心の声に耳を澄ませ、掛け算をしていく。

2020年は今まで以上に、もっともっと面白いことへ向かって、ぶつかっていきたいと思います。
そのためにも日々の研鑽も怠らないようにしなければ・・・。

お勉強の合間の息抜きは伊坂幸太郎さんの小説『ジャイロスコープ』や井伏鱒二さんの小説『珍品堂主人』やLiLiCoさんのエッセイ（自伝）『ザリガニとひまわり』などを読みながら
、文章からも元気をたくさん頂いています。
この冬は「新刊ではないけれど前から気になっていたのにまだ読めていなかった本
のあれこれでしばらく読み進めることになりそうな予感がします。

インスタグラムがスタートして、インスタは短い文章で、ビーアミーはよりブログらしく長くも書けるなあ、とわくわくしていたら、
こっちが余計に長くなる傾向があるような・・・

About a week has already passed since the beginning of the day in 2020. Did you enjoy your holidays? We spent relaxing days in or near our town. My husband and me are not fit for the clouded situation like a big sale in the huge supermarket or shopping mall (of course William too). We love silence. We had good vacation in our home without ridiculous running for cheap, not chic something... That’s why we have no big special news in these days like the travel to the island, many parties and so on. But we are so happy. Our all families have good health (without “influenzas “! It’s going around our town and Kanto area now).

Many museum, art galleries and events for art are starting their exhibitions in 2020.
We went to SUPERLABO STORE TOKYO (Yasunori Hoki is the owner of this shop, he is running his publisher SUPERLABO by himself. His books are so cool and elegantly. Please check his beautiful books which are made with many famous photographers on web.)

SUPERLABO STORE TOKYO is the concept store for the SUPERLABO publishing.
You can see many new books in person, and also some photo exhibitions or talking sessions are running in the store.
The location is in Jinbocho where is famous as the town for book shops.

As to get a e-mail from our respective photographer who is living in U.S., we arranged to meet in the store.
The new year specialized event was held for photo books. Some speakers introduced their favorite photo book.






Koji Onaka presented about “THE GAMBLERS” by Martin Amis.





I like this book. It has a cool balance through whole images, and sequence is perfect.

It’s a difficult term where the art of photographs are going. And when the photographs contains in the photo book, they can not ignore the sequence by the pages. Although it’s difficult getting a good sequence, it’s exciting work to make a sequence.

By the way about “THE GAMBLERS”, Martin Amis is the owner of the big photo book store! He is running the famous online store “photo edition” that is the most big shop in Europe! His book is a perfect book, indeed!

When I had started learning about art and photography for art, I saw many famous photo books in the library. But at that time, I had not studied enough, I couldn’t catch many important things seeing many photo books.
But at the end of last year, my eyes were opened when I saw “Exile” by Josef Koudelka. It’s a great book. I saw it in a new light.
Seeing all pages, I thought that the photo book was really great style for the artistic expression. And I realized “I love photo book and art, absolutely”.







At the same time, I knew my likeness about combining something.
I really interest about some variation through the two or more something are connected in the same field. It’s like a magic.
The connection are sometimes good, and sometimes bad.
But sometimes it will touch another world beyond my thought. It’s so exciting.
If I guard my mind as to afraid the fail, I’ll never find the brilliant things.
I need many practices to find the really new and exciting things.

For the rest, I read my favorite author’s novels and essay by Kotaro Isaka, Masuji Ibuse and LiLiCo. On this winter, I’ll read some books which I had checked them before.

On the last Christmas, my official Instagram started. I’ll post short shots on instagram, and l’ll write long texts on this blog. After starting Instagram, my texts are longer than before...
Anyway, I post something new on the two way, Instagram and this blog.
